Kosme Maria de Barañano Letamendia

Kosme de Barañano is full tenure professor of Art History at the University Miguel Hernandez de Elche (since 2004). Furthermore, he is a full tenure professor of Art History at the University of the Basque Country (1989-2000). He has been a visiting professor at the Kunsthistorisches Institut at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, (1983-1989). He has worked in the museums Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C. (1986); at the National Museum Reina Sofia as deputy director (1989-1990), and as executive director at IVAM, Valencia (2000-2004). He is currently professor of History of Art at the UMH.

He has curated over 70 exhibitions (and edited the respective catalogues) both in museums in Europe and the United States, for example, those of Alberto Giacometti, Eduardo Chillida, Philip Guston, Max Beckmann, etc. During his management of the IVAM, the museum paid special attention to the area of Art and Territory, highlighting the exhibitions of Hansjörg Voth, James Turrell, Charles Simonds, Isamu Noguchi, Tony Smith, Dani Karavan, or those dedicated to architects Luis Barragan, John Pawson and The Living City by Frank Lloyd Wright.

(1986); Museo Nacional Reina Sofia as Deputy Director (1989-1990); and the IVAM, Valencia as Executive Director (2000-2004). He has curated more than 70 exhibitions (and edited their corresponding catalogues) in different Museums in Europe and in the United States, for example, Alberto Giacometti, Eduardo Chillida, Philip Guston, Max Beckmann, etc. While he was Executive Director of the IVAM, the Museum placed special attention to the area of Art and Territory, which was demonstrated by the following exhibitions Hansjörg Voth, James Turrell, Charles Simonds, Isamu Noguchi, Tony Smith, Dani Karavan or the ones dedicated to the architects Luis Barragan, John Pawson, and the The Living City of Frank Lloyd Wright
