The Campus

The Campus in Altea is one of the four campuses of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, next to the ones in Elche, Orihuela and San Juan. Altea, the city on the Mediterranean Sea with which the campus maintains close links, provides a pleasant environment and climate, ideal for the development of academic activity.

The Campus consists of the Montagut, Cap Negret, Ifach, Cap Blanc, Albir, Bernia, Puig Campana, Aitana, Algar and Planet buildings. These facilities are designed for learning and development of contemporary art practice, forming an open space for the transit and confluence of ideas and for the university community.

The Campus integrates the Faculty of Fine Arts of Altea and the Department of Art, in which the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, the Master’s in Project and Research in Arts and Master’s in Teacher Training ESO, BACH, FP, and EI are taught. It also houses the activity of most of the research groups of the Department of Art.
Furthermore, it hosts activities related to university extension, such as courses, conferences and exhibitions.

Campus Facilities

Since its inception, the Faculty of Fine Arts Altea has opted for a methodology based on personalized assistance to the student, and fully-accessible workspaces where the different approaches to contemporary art as a teaching and research subject are integrated in a critical manner.

Its location in a privileged geographical area makes the UMH campus an ideal place to concentrate and study, with open spaces and facilities spread throughout ten buildings. In these buildings the Fine Arts degree, different master’s degrees and the various specific courses are taught; spaces where to investigate, and ultimately develop diverse art projects.

The infrastructure of the numerous and excellently equipped workshops and laboratories that make up the Campus of Altea are continuously updated and available to students as well as the teaching and research team. Their opening hours are extensive, as the schedule includes the teaching hours and the free practice times. During the latter, students have the opportunity to further develop their projects outside the class under the supervision of technicians. In addition, a free rental service for materials and tools where students can borrow necessary equipment is available from the first course on, allowing students to have greater autonomy when it comes to their jobs. All of this with the intention of providing students with optimal conditions for learning and the development of their concepts.

SHOWCASING THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE

The works collected in this section have been made by students of the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the UMH, most of them in the context of work assignments for their Final Year Project and term projects.

In academic terms, the Final Year Project is a theoretical and practical graduation course in the last year of the Bachelor’s in Fine Arts. It consists of an artistic project as the culmination of the four years of studies in this field. For the development of this project, the student selects an academic tutor with the most suitable profile for their project from the faculty of the degree.

The Final Year Project is also an opportunity to put the experiences and lessons learned in the various media and the disciplines addressed into practice by developing a coherent and attractive artistic proposal.
